Calgary Zoo has been open for 82 years, from 1929 to now, and it's the second largest zoo in Canada. The zoo started with 36 mammals and 78 birds. Years have passed. Now there are over 1000 animals and 290 species. The founder of The Calgary Zoo is the City of Calgary. The following is what the zoo need to do and what they strive to become. The mission of the zoo (What they do) is "to engage visitors in enjoyable and unique experiences, connect our community with nature, and inspire actions which supports conservation." The vision of the zoo (what they strive to become) is "a world-class zoological society, committed to excellence in animal stewardship and conservation leadership."
The Calgary Zoo is not-for-profit registered charity that is supported the community. The zoo opens every day, from 9:00am to 5:00pm, except Christmas Day. There are tickets at the gates, and you can purchase the tickets online too. It's $13 for ages3-15, $21 for ages16-59, and $21 for ages60+. There are different events at the zoo at different times. The zoo has won The 2010 Calgary Best Public Venue/Tourist Attraction. The sector of the Calgary Zoo is a tourist destination. A tourist destination is a city, town, or other area that is dependent to a significant extent on the revenues accruing from tourism. It may contain one or more tourist attractions and possibly some "tourist traps. Calgary Zoo compete with other tourist destination, like Heritage Park, Fort Calgary (The Calgary Tower), ect.. The zoo provide a solution to people who are bored at home, want to see some animals, enjoy their holidays, and enjoy the nature. The zoo work with youth volunteers, the City of Calgary, other zoos, and other countries to get animals. The activities in the zoo are behind-the-scenes, animal breeding, the zoo light (at Christmas Day), Boo at the Zoo (Halloween), ect.. The zoo get money from sponsors, visitors, and the government. The zoo offer new animals, rare animals, and babies to get more visitors. The customer relationship between the zoo is don't gives bad impressions to customers, for example would be animals died in the zoo by some accidents. The groups of customers are like school groups (get experiences from the zoo), families (holidays), teenagers (get some fresh air, and cute animals), and tourists (visitors from other countries).
